Monologues & Poetry International will offer both a limited live screening and an expanded virtual on-demand screening in 2027. Please check back regularly for additional details.

 

Monologues are often overlooked at film festivals; however, they are a powerful performance medium. The ability to master solo verbal presentations can be quite compelling. Therefore, developing strong monologues is important for any actor, as is learning to skillfully express thoughts aloud and to share emotions, feelings, anxieties, or humor through verbal-visual storytelling.

Monologues & Poetry International is pleased to provide a platform for this particular character performance technique.​

Categories Include:​

Best Monologue/Soliloquy: 10 minutes or less

Best Spoken-Word/Poetry:  10 minutes or less

Best Long Form Monologues and Poetry: Maximum 20 minutes
 

We want submitters to think outside the box, use their imagination, and be creative. Monologues & Poetry International accepts monologues, soliloquies, poetry, and sketches.

 

Awards​

Our festival offers jury awards: a trophy for First Place Winners in the United States and laurels for out-of-country First Place Winners, as well as laurels for all 2nd- and 3rd-Place winners in each category. Winners are chosen by industry professionals, including Poets, Writers, Film Directors, Casting Directors, Actors, and Acting Coaches.

Winning entrants outside the U.S. must include a U.S. shipping address to receive a trophy; otherwise, winners will receive an official laurel via email. 

​

Award categories are subject to change and may include a cash prize for Best of Festival. The Monologues & Poetry International Film Fest reserves the right to move a submission to a category we determine is more appropriate,  

 

Rules & Terms​

There is no completion date restriction for submitted works.  We accept local, national, and international monologues. The official language of the Festival is English. Non-English language films must have English subtitles that are easily readable.

Submissions may not contain sexually explicit content, excessive profanity, or other material deemed unsuitable for the festival audience.

​

Online screeners only, uploaded directly to FilmFreeway or linked to Vimeo via FilmFreeway. Monologue submissions must be at least 720p; 1080p is preferred.

JUDGING​

Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: (1) storytelling, (2) visual communication, (3) creativity in presentation, and (4) delivery.

​

Entry fees are non-refundable, including for submissions that are not selected for screening.

​

The Monologues & Poetry International Film Fest will NOT be able to help defray the costs of travel and lodging for those outside the area who wish to attend a live screening.

 

In the event of circumstances beyond the festival’s control that prevent a live screening, the festival reserves the right to offer an online screening in its place.

Selections are the final decisions of Monologues & Poetry International Film Fest and are not subject to appeal.

The rules herein are subject to change without prior notice; however, we will make reasonable efforts to notify submitters of any changes. Such notification cannot be guaranteed.

Submitters agree to read and accept all rules and regulations for participation. By submitting, you acknowledge your acceptance of the festival terms and grant Monologues & Poetry International permission to use your trailer, partial clips, and, if selected, your full submission for live screenings, online screenings, and Monologues & Poetry programming appearing on Vallejo Community Access Television.

The duration for which any submitted work or related content remains featured on the festival website will be at the sole discretion of Monologues & Poetry International.
