Monologues are often overlooked at film festivals; however, they are a powerful performance medium. The ability to be able to master solo verbal presentations can be quite compelling. Therefore, developing strong monologues is important for any actor, along with learning to skillfully express thoughts aloud and share emotions, feelings, anxieties, or humor through verbal-visual storytelling.

Monologues International is pleased to provide a platform for this specific type of character performance technique.

Best Spoken-Word/Poetry - Under 10 minutes

Best Long Version Monologues and Poetry - Maximum 30 minutes
 

We want submitters to think outside the box, use their imagination, and be creative. Monologues International accepts Monologues, Soliloquies, and Sketches.

 

Awards

​

Our festival offers jury awards: a trophy for First Place Winners in the United States and laurels for out-of-country First Place Winners, and all 2nd & 3rd Place winners in each category. Winners are chosen by industry professionals, including Poets, Writers, Film Directors, Casting Directors, Actors, and Acting Coaches.

​

Winning monologues outside the US must include a U.S. shipping address to receive a trophy; otherwise, a winner's certificate will be provided electronically along with laurels.

​

Award categories are subject to change and may include a cash prize for Best of Festival. The Monologues International Film Fest reserves the right to move a monologue to a category we feel is more appropriate, or one that we believe is not representative of the submission age group. 

 

Rules & Terms

There is no time limit by which the monologues must have been completed.

​

Best Monologue/Soliloquy - Under 10 minutes

Best Spoken-Word/Poetry - Under 10 minutes

Best Long Version Monologues and Poetry - Maximum 30 minutes

We accept local, national, and international monologues. The official language of the Festival is English. Non-English language films must have English subtitles that are easily readable.

​

No sexually explicit, inappropriate, or foul language.

​

Online screeners only, uploaded directly to FilmFreeway or linked to Vimeo via FilmFreeway. Monologue submissions must be at least 720p; 1080p is preferred.

JUDGING

​

Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: (1) storytelling, (2) visual communication, (3) Creativity in presentation, and (4) delivery.

​

Entry fees are non-refundable, including non-refundable for monologues not selected. to screen.

​

The Monologues International Film Fest will NOT be able to help defray the costs of travel and lodging for those outside the area who wish to attend a live screening.

 

In the event of COVID-related closures or restrictions, the festival reserves the right to offer an online screening in place of a live screening.

Selections are final and are the decision of Monologues International Film Fest and are not subject to appeal.

Submitters agree to read and accept the rules & regulations for participation. Youth under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian submit on their behalf. As a Parent or Guardian of a minor submitting a monologue, you understand and acknowledge that you are agreeing to the terms of this festival on behalf of your child or child whom you are legally designated as Guardian and that you are allowing your child's monologue to appear on our website, at a live-screening, online screening, and on Monologues & Poetry appearing on Vallejo Community Access Television programs. The length of time monologues appear on the website is solely at the discretion of Monologues International Film Fest.
